As a reader with unsatiable needs for dark, suspense romances, El Diablo is, hands down, one of the best I have ever read in my entire life and, without a doubt, one of my top favorite reads of 2017. The only regret I had was the fact that I just discovered this brilliant author after years of book searching that contained the ‘wow’ factors, all of which this book had. My applause to M. Robbinson for creating this amazing, standalone book!

El Diablo by M. Robinson follows the man who runs a worldwide mob empire named Alejandro Martinez, who is feared and admired by every living being, who bent laws and had a power over governments, who charmed every woman and got rid everything and everyone with the snap of his fingers. He is untouchable, unpredictable, unimaginably intelligent, seductive, duplicitous, and the legend whom the guys with powers both dreamed to become and wanted to kill. He is El Diablo (the Devil).

I had killed. I had avenged. I had loved. I had destroyed lives and now it was my time to pay for being the Grim fucking Reaper, taking lives that didn’t belong to me. I just never thought my life would end like this.

Our heroine, Lexi, is a young, strong, beautiful ballerina, who never lets her past preventing her from looking to the future, dreaming for a better life, achieving her goals, and doing what she is passionate about. She is the epitome of love, passion, and determination in a little package, and possesses the strengths human beings rarely have.

Music and dance were my peace. They made me feel whole. Turning and twisting, leaping through the air as if I had been a swan in captivity all my life. Finally, free.

They are one hundred percent different but have two things in common: They both have been marked by darkness in past but when it comes to love, they both love hard. Their story spans decades and has to overcome every heartache the world offers and this is their story.

My thoughts:

‘Epic’ would be the perfect word to describe this story. I could not remember the last time I enjoyed a lengthy book without skipping. I devoured this book in one sitting—fifteen hours to be exact which concerned my husband—and never had a moment of boredom. It would capture your mind and heart from the first page to the last and had you thinking ‘how fast time flies.’

M. Robinson surely didn’t hold anything back when she created this masterpiece. Every detail, surprise, and revelation were there with a purpose, and although there were moments I felt as though I could not take it any more heartbreaks, my mind and heart kept racing with anticipation, and before I knew it, I had reached the last page and wished I could have stayed in their world a little longer. That was how addictive this story was. While the feeling of having a hard time to move on after an epic story was not foreign to me as a reader, it rarely happened and never ceased to surprise me.

I admired the author for making all of her characters unique and consistent especially the hero. Alejandro was the character you would hate to love. He was all the dark things we could ever imagine, who was both the hero and the villain in the story. The ANTI-hero. I loved how true he was to his character even in the moments I expected him to be otherwise.

I loved her with every breath in my body, every piece of my fucked up heart, every last part of me belonged to her.

Reading his story was torture most of the time, but some precious moments of tenderness that showed the hidden sides of him which were cleverly presented when I didn’t expect shocked yet put a smile on my face. The moments in which I could see him as a hero. Both his animalistic and tender characters made him an addictive and memorable anti-hero. As much as it was challenging to accept his actions, he won me with his imperfections and swept me off my feet with the way he loved Lexi. He was, hands down, one of my top favorite heroes.

“Do you ever regret the things you’ve seen? The things you’ve done?”
She nodded again, looking back up at the stars. Not knowing what else to say.

“It wouldn’t have brought me to you.”

Lexi was the kind of heroine that everyone would admire and relate to. Behind her petite frame, there were unbelievable strengths that had pushed her through in most of the seemingly impossible circumstances. Her life choices and the way she saw life despite her age made me love her even more. She was a total opposite of Alejandro and I loved how perfect they were for each other despite their differences.

Every side of him consumed me. Every part of him engulfed me. He was mine. No matter what.

Their love story was imperfectly perfect at an understandable pace. My heart broke with theirs for the time wasted and for the tears and heartbreak that almost broke them for good. I smiled for the rare, happy moments that showed how effortless their relationship was and how perfect they were for each other. I was bewitched and enchanted by their love and how strong it had become after being tested by time and the worst of life hardships.

“Te amo, Lexi. I love you with each breath I take. With every breath of my heart, my future belongs to you. Para siempre,” I breathed out into her ear. “Please find it in your heart to forgive me. I need you. I can’t live without you. I’ve tried…” I whispered, trying to hold it together. “Take all the time you need, but please come to me.”

I took one last look at her.
Silently hoping…
This wasn’t the end of our love story.

The plot and drama were as addicted as the characters. The plot was seamlessly moving with unexpected turns and twists that guaranteed a free of boredom. The drama was full of angst, betrayal, sacrifice, love, passion, and secrets that promised a lot of headaches, heartbreaks, tears, laughter, and smiles. It gives readers an epic, one of the kind, unforgettable adventure through the eyes of the magnificent Alejandro Martinez.

The supporting characters were the important elements of the story that would capture your attention, had you wondering about each of their secrets, and yearning for their own stories. This was the only story that had me intensely curious about each of the other characters. The whole story was brilliantly written with the purpose of not only luring us into loving the main characters but the side ones as well.

I could not love El Diablo and admire M. Robinson’s excellent writing more. If you are a dark, suspense, romance junkie, you need to meet Alejandro Martinez. Trust me, you would fall in love with The Devil. I cannot highly recommend this book enough. My advice is, please, don’t read the ending but let the story surprise you. Trust me!

“If something ever does happen to me. Just remember I’ll always be with you. No matter what. In here.” I placed my hand over her heart.

  1. I have this sitting on my Kindle and haven’t read it because I noticed it’s book #1, and I wasn’t sure if it ended with a cliffy. Maybe I’ll have to move it up my list before book #2 is available. Great review Geybie, happy to see that you enjoyed it.
