GBB Weekly Recap

Hi everyone, how are you? I hope you had a wonderful week and are enjoying an awesome weekend filled with fantastic books. I had a really tough week. My first difficult one as a blogger. As some of you who have visited my website have already noticed that my blog was not loading properly these last two days. It was my first challenge as a blogger and I learned so many things relating to maintaining a website on my own.

The problem started when I decided to change my domain from geybiesbook.blog to geybie.co. The reason for that is because I had been having some issues with the last one. Before moving to wordpress.org I was using the premium site of wordpress.com, complete with the new domain. When I moved to wordpress.org, I got a new domain since it was free at the time with the package I purchased. I didn’t know that we could use our old domain, so I ended up with two domains. I chose to use the old one for a while until I started getting problems with it that resulted in my decision to change it two days ago.

Changing a domain isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. There were lots of things involved that need to change as well. I’m so grateful that the server of my website, Bluehost, has an amazing team available 24/7 and they’ve been nothing but awesome. They help me figure out the problems and fix them for me. Yes, it was very exhausting but I regretted nothing since I learned a lot of important things.

For those of you who have self-hosted sites must have known the beauty of maintaining the sites. I love the freedom I’ve had but I do know there are many things need to be learned and I’m still learning. Anyway, my site has been back to normal. There are still some minor changes need to be done but overall it has functioned as it used to be and I’m grateful for it.

My new site domain now is https://geybie.co

Now, back to the monthly recap. Last month was a great one for me. I enjoyed most of the books I read and discovered some new-to-me authors whose books I loved. 1. Okay, now I see it. I can relate to your frustration over the website issues, although I’ve never tried self-hosted. I bought a domain for my website (from Word Press), and so far so good.

    Hang in there!

  2. Oh when I switched from the wordpress.com site to the self hosted wordpress.org, I had my host handle everything!!! It was overwhelming and I wasn’t even doing anything myself! Glad you got it all sorted out now!
Great reading month!! Hopefully September is just as awesome!

  3. Beware Of The Reader

Hi Geybie I know all about these problems 😉 I’m on WordPress.org for the freedom etc. but I had to learn some technical stuff too. The major down side of .org is not showing in other’s reader. Especially if we are both on .org. That’s unfair as it limits our follower basis with a lack of exposure. So freedom has a price. I will check if I see you in my reader. If not don’t worry as I follow by mail and get all your posts 😉

  4. Welcome back! I know how frustrating it can be when the website you painstakingly work on has issues. Glad you have it all figured out hun! xox

  5. Thank goodness you were able to get everything settled with the domains. So far I haven’t had any problems with Google/Blogger and my domain… ‘knocking on wood’

I have the new Lauren Blakely book on my list and can’t wait to read it, I will keep an eye out for your review. 🙂

Sorry to hear about the domain problems, glad you got it all resolved. That kind of thing can be nerve-wracking. And glad too that it was a good month, other than that. I’m really enjoying your Recommend Me feature- I’m getting lost of ideas for books from it!!

Venom Glory- wow! What a cover.

  7. Sorry to hear about your blogging problems! Those kind of problems are the worst.. When my blog doesn’t function right I just get crazy! Blegh..
Sounds like you had a great reading month! I love your Recommend Me posts.
Have a great week and happy reading!

  8. Oh yeah… self-hosting can be “pretty”. I’m glad you solved it all! You should make sure though that your old address (with the blog) reroutes all the traffic to the new one. Because there might still be sites with your old backlinks that will not work otherwise.
Either way, have a great week 🙂

    • Unfortunately, my old domain used “https” and I have to buy the SSL certificate if I want to enable redirects. I’m still thinking about it but maybe not. Yes, I know. 😟😭

  9. Jenea

I tried to visit the site and it gave me an error, now I know why. I was worried. Glad you got everything all situated now. 🙂 Enjoy you week.

  10. I have been off the grid most of this week so missed the drama on the blog but having been through changes myself (including a new name) I can sympathise. Hope it’s a less crazy week for you x

  11. Oh man, that stinks. Glad it’s straightened out. Hopefully you don’t have anymore issues. I’ve been lucky so far and haven’t had any big issues. Knock on wood. Enjoy your books and have a great week, Geybie!

  12. Glad to hear you got your domain name problem fixed. We just had to move to an entirely new domain and lost all our data (GoDaddy deleted it) because I was late paying. So, I feel your pain of having to get everything going again. At least you didn’t have to start totally from scratch like I did.
    Have a great week!

  13. Congratulations on this new domain! I remember when I first switched to wordpress.org and I was so overwhelmed. I hope it wasn’t as much of a shock for you coming from wordpress.com. The blog looks great. You should be really proud of yourself for this move. To me it was seamless, but I haven’t been around much lately. Hopefully that will change soon.
    Have a great week!

  14. The joys of blogging, but here you are older and wiser and ready to keep on going. All the best and enjoy those books now you have a little more time.

  15. Kathy Martin

Wow! Managing your own domain sounds way above my tech level. I am happy with my Blogger blogs. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  16. carolesrandomlife

I will be honest. I would be lost in regards to figuring out all of the domain stuff. I would need to do a lot of research to figure it out. I am glad you got it worked out. Yay for enjoying your first audiobook. I just love them! I hope you have a great Setember!

  17. I think anyone who blogs can relate to your anxiety over the issues you had. Glad they’re resolved and hope it’s smooth sailing from here on out! Have a good week and enjoy your reading!

  18. Oh thank God, I thought I was the only one who kept getting errors when I visited your blog (I’ve been having issues with WordPress lately since I somehow end up unfollowing blogs without even clicking unfollow OTL)!

Anyway, I’m happy to see that it’s up and working again! ❤️❤️❤️

  19. amynikitawords

Ugh blog technical problems are an absolute nightmare. I’m so sorry you had a tough week with that; it’s so draining, isn’t it?

Hope you have a lovely September, Geybie! Glad you got to read a lot of awesome books last month 🙂 ❤❤

  20. Oh gosh! What a mission, right? I’m so glad everything seems to be smooth and sorted now though and I just need to update my bookmarks and links! I will also check my BlogLovin etc when I’m back on PC later!

I have already noted you updated your Disqus profile but for people I know well I don’t use that link to get to your blogs! Whoops.

Anyways, great recap and I’m slowly catching up!

    • Geybie's Book Blog

Oh thank you so much, Di. I had a problem with my old domain so I decided to change it. I knew it would cause lots of confusion and extra work for me and others but I had no choice. 🙈

Thank you for your support. 😁
